Soul Calibur V Launch Tournament - February 4th, 2012
« on: December 19, 2011, 05:45:25 PM »
Yes you heard that right guys.  We will be running a launch tournament for the upcoming 3D weapons fighter, Soul Calibur V.  Impressions of the game from various fighting game players are looking more and more positive and your favourite president and resident SC fan has booked a room and set a date for us to have a launch tournament to try the game out.

Location: University Centre, GSA Lounge 224A/B
Time: Doors open at 1pm.  Tournament starts at 4pm.
Entry: Free

Any other info is TBD.  As with our other launch tournaments, the format we will be using will be a unique one from our usual tournaments as a way to give players more chances to play.  Whether that format is something like pools, 3/5 double elim or round robin will depend on the number of entrants we get.

Edit: Room was changed due to the GSA lounge's renovations have not been completed yet.

We now have a confirmed venue for the launch tournament.  It will be in University Centre, GSA Lounge!

First post has been updated with start time.  The tournament will start at 4pm but feel free to show up before then for some casuals.

Ugh, this is starting to piss me off.  If there's no easy way to unlock characters, people will essentially be forced to clear storymode in the four evenings before the launch tournament.  That would become three, if those same people decide to go to the science lounge the friday before.

This will definitely be a chore to those who plan on bringing a station and just want to practice/find their character.  Lets hope Namco doesn't follow suit with the length of Mortal Kombat's story mode.

I am really hating unlockables in fighting games at the moment.

With any luck they'll offer a pay to unlock code for download.

Well Idlemind on 8wayrun petitioned for a tournament unlock mode in the options menu.  So with any luck that went through, and we can just flick it on for all stage and character unlocks.

If not then story mode is apparently only 3 hrs long, so its not too bad.

Important thing I need to mention.

The room for the tournament has now been changed to room 224A/B due to the fact that the GSA Lounge's renovations are still not complete.  This is the same room that the UMvC3 tournament was in.
